RESIDENTS’ PICKS | BAS DOBBELAER’S DIGS THROUGH MARCUS WORGULL
We’re getting this weekend started with top-shelf techno & house, with Marcus Worgull serving the records for the night. Marcus just released an EP on Innervisions, and it’s slammin’! Alongside him, our own Bas Dobbelaer will be playing as well. Since we know Bas is a big fan of Marcel Worgull, we asked him to select various productions of the German DJ and producer that served as an inspiration.
Marcus Worgull - Dragon Loop
Lets start with the beginning: Marcus’ first release on Innervisions back in 2005. Releasing timeless music is something the label always wanted to achieve and what they successfully did with this 10 minutes ride. Someone commented on this YouTube video about 3 years ago: “Almost 10 years old, but sounds like it was made yesterday”. I couldn't have described it better.
Marcus Worgull, Peter Pardeike - Salam
Another Innervisions release. This track takes me back to 2012 when Dixon & Âme did their ADE Boiler Room set at the Lloyd hotel, here in Amsterdam. Pillow fights were happening all over the place, while Dixon & Âme unleashed a lot of unreleased secret weapons. Sadly I was too late to join in on the fun, but I followed every little moment through the livestream. This 4 hour set has been on repeat for a long time and this track was definitely one of many highlights of that specific set.
Marcus Worgull, Motor City Drum Ensemble - Onassis
This beauty was released on our Amsterdam-based pride Rush Hour in 2013. It was compiled by Gerd Janson at the first ‘Music For Autobahns’ series, which always is a pleasure for every collector (when is number 3 coming?!). I’m not sure, but this could be the start of the ambient project ‘Vermont' between Marcus Worgull and Motor City Drum Ensemble. The moving bass-lines combined with some jazzy piano chords are truly something. Nothing more, nothing less.
Vermont - Majestät
And so there it was, the first ambient album by Vermont released on Kompakt in 2014. Majestät is a beauty on it’s own, but the album as a whole is definitely worth the listen. There were also a couple of cool remixes done by DJ Tennis and Mano Le Tough which were some serious club bangers at the time. Luckily for us Marcus and Danilo (MCDE) created a second ambient album last year, filled with gems once more. You might’ve spotted the track 'Ki-Bou’ in a few of my openingssets.
Ace & Tate Sounds - guest mix by Marcus Worgull
Last but not least, a podcast by the big men himself. Surprisingly, this particular mix shows Marcus’ musical variety, with him playing different styles that show his diverse taste. It’s a mix to chill down and get lost in the moment to.
